American Foxhound
 |
The American Foxhound is a scent hound derived from the English Foxhound. The American Foxhound was bred to be taller, quicker, leaner and lighter than their English cousins. The American Foxhound Club reports that President George Washington was a proud owner of a pack of hounds at Mount Vernon. He bred English Foxhounds with a gift of French Foxhounds from Lafayette and those hounds served as a foundation for the standard of the breed today. American Foxhounds have a musical bark and an independent spirit.
