American Pit Bull Terrier
|
The American Pit Bull Terrier is a good-natured and loyal pet that needs owners who are strong leaders in order to properly channel and control their protective instincts and high energy. The breed has a somewhat undeserving reputation for being naturally dog to dog aggressive, but the AKC standard considers this trait highly uncharacteristic and undesirable. In the nineteenth century, pit bulls were family pets of settlers crossing the United States and were trusted to watch the children while the adults worked in the fields. As the years passed, pit bulls achieved a position of reverence among Americans, and they appeared in advertising campaigns such as Buster Brown and Pup Brand and pit bull, "Petey" was the beloved pet star on the children's television classic "The Little Rascals". The pit bull is also the only breed to have graced the cover of Life magazine three times.

Stella
Sent in by Gale — Canada
I love my pit bull she is sweet and loves cats, people and dogs. The are banned in Ontario Canada now, but we love her a lot. She is always game for walks and fun. Last year she injured her hind knee and had 2 surgeries, but its not slowed her down.Stella is a rescue we adopted her from the Bullies in Need Association. She was abused and afraid of men. We have had animal behaviourists and trainers do private and group training with her. We kept her in day care once a week to keep her socialized with other dogs. We foster kittens and she just loves to look after them. We had a group with no mother and she cleaned them and let them lie on her. We have adopted some of the kittens. They love her and play and sleep with her. We are very lucky because she is very sweet like most pit bulls are and Best Friends in Utah have proven that abused fighting dogs can be retrained and adopted to loving homes.

Capone the APBT puppy
"We met Capone, an American Pit Bull Terrier puppy, at the 2008 Hoboken Italian Festival in Hoboken, NJ. His owner was Jamaican so that's why he's wearing the Jamiacan collar and leash. We only met him for a few minutes but he's so cute we just had to put his picture up here."
