American Water Spaniel
 |
The American Water Spaniel is a relatively new breed and was not officially recognized by the AKC until 1940, though their history dates back to the late 1800s. They're a tough breed to find, (less than 200 new American Water Spaniels are registered each year with the AKC) but are considered to be worth searching for being very loyal and affectionate dogs. Huntsmen love this breed for its keen sense of smell, willingness to work and please the owner. The tendency of the American Water Spaniel to "soft mouth" game makes it an ideal bird dog. The American Water Spaniel loves to be the center of attention and to be with its "pack" - left alone, it can act out destructively or bark excessively.
