Portuguese Sheepdog
The Portugese Sheepdog or Cão da Serra de Aires is a medium sized breed of dog. It's a herding dog indigenous to the region of Portugal that includes
the Serra de Aires, a range of hills or mountains marking the boundary between Ribatejo
and Oeste, north of the Tagus river. In the Portugese language the Portugese Sheepdog has
earned the nickname "cão macaco" or monkey dog, because of the dog's similarity in
appearance and attitude to the macaque. The Portugese Sheepdog was used to herd a wide
variety of livestock including cows, sheep, goats, horses and even pigs.
